Session 8: Mini e-Learning activity

Session 8: Mini e-Learning activity

Designing and implementing a mini e-learning activity using one (or more) Web 2.0 technologies, social media, e-learning platform, or mobile apps, to demonstrate their educational affordances. The mini e-learning activity will be experienced by other class members during the session.

Chosen App:

Nearpod is an application that allows you to create an interactive classroom. You can upload powerpoints and include various activities in between slides. You can include a poll, quiz, draw it, fill in the blanks, memory test and collaborate. In addition to activities, you can also include web content. When presenting the Nearpod presentation to the class, you can either make it student paced or start a live session. In student paced, students are able to manoeuvre around the Nearpod presentation themselves. While in live session, they cannot do anything! As the teacher, you control which slides they will view next. After completing the activity, you can share students' work to the whole class. In addition, at the end of lesson, you are able to go on Nearpod and revisit what your students did during your lesson. It helps you organize and summarize students' work from the live session.

  1. Woooooow! You put the photos and videos here as well. So sweet of you group. That must be a precious memory of our class since today is the last session.
Super love your mini-course. I played "nearpod"for a long time after your course and fall a deep love without overstatement. This website is convenient to add diverse kinds of teaching medias like video, picture,PPT,ec al, and is easy for teachers to hold the speed. I plan to use it for my next presentation. Thank you so much:)

  2. You have done a great job! Although you have to compress a lesson (originally may be a 40-min lesson?) into a 15-minute mini activity, which makes it a little rushed and that some of the features of the nearpod might have been skipped, I still think your activity so interesting and enjoyable. Well done!

  3. An interesting and well-organised mini e-learning activity using Nearpod! Nearpod is indeed an interactive classroom tool as we were engaged throughout the activity.

To begin with, I particularly liked how you activated our schemata in the beginning of the activity by showing pictures of fables or characters we had probably heard of and how you consolidated our understanding of fables in the end by showing the image ‘What do we find in a fable?’.

Moreover, showing our classwork on the screen further grabbed our attention, especially in the activities in which we were given the choice of drawing or writing our answers.

Last but not least, I liked that you added the post-session report of three students as it gave me an idea of the information that is provided in the report. I also appreciate that you put up the pictures and videos taken during the activity.

  4. Nearpod is such a great platform for students to learn more by themselves! "Wolf is coming" is such an old fable, however, your mini-class is still really interesting! I can imagine if we were young kids, we would be really happy to see each others' work and that must be fun! Awesome job! I really like your class!

  7. Thanks for introducing us a pretty cool e-learning tool Nearpod. When using that tool in class I was totally impressed, it can collect the real-time reply from audience and interact with audience as well as keep the record of all reply for further analysis, which is very useful for teachers in teaching and evaluation. I think I may use it in the future.

  8. I think your group's mini e-learning activity is well-organized, fun and engaging! You have introduced a very useful tool, Nearpod to us and effectively demonstrate how Nearpod can be used in real teaching.

There are a few things that I like about your group's activity: first, it is very nice of you to begin the activity by asking us 'What are fables' and give us some examples.

Second, you mentioned that students are welcome to type or draw their answers which I have a sense of autonomy in presenting my answer, and it is obvious that our class was really engaged by your activity. Also, it really helps to engage students by showing some of the students' work in-class.

Third, your group's presentation is even better as you have recorded the activity, as well as included a sample of the students' report and posted them here! Thanks for the great work!

  10. The story and the pictures catch my eye. It is excellent that we can answer the question in different ways, drawing, typing, etc., so it really tests verbal and non-verbal communication in the lesson. But I am not sure children can clearly answer the question or express their thinking with picture, especially use drawing to express some abstract concepts like “what can you learn from the story?”.

  11. The software your group chose made the course much fun.During the writing or painting, we totally participated in the class activity and impressed by the class content.
Besides, the pictures and the video taken in the class are interesting. It is good for us to review the process of the course. We can learn how we behaved when teachers gave different guides.

  12. It is interesting to use ‘Nearpod’ in the lessons. Students can present their ideas through ‘Draw it’ and teachers can immediately show the students’ work to the whole class. The corresponding feedback can be given to the whole class and hence it helps a lot in the learning progress. Moreover, different functions like doing a survey and PowerPoint can also be included in ‘Nearpod’ that is very convenient.

  13. Nearpod is such a fun platform to engage students! Your mini e-learning course is a typical blended learning course supported by Nearpod. The organizing of your class is perfect, from let us thinking what is fable, to engage us into a fable. It is impressive and logical. It is a wonderful experience to write down or draw our ideas and express to the whole class.

P.s. Surprised to see the photos of the class here! Thank you soooo much~
