Session 3: Group Reflection
Reflection
The ADDIE model was useful in helping us develop a more in-depth understanding on the teaching material we were making. In the analysis phase, we had to determine who our target audience was and what we expected them to learn from the tutorial video. This helped us narrow down on what we wanted to include in the tutorial video as we considered their needs and their expected gain from watching this tutorial video.
In the design phase, we started to plan on what we wanted to specifically include in the tutorial video. We created a rough storyboard on Microsoft Powerpoint by taking screenshots of the steps we wanted to include in creating the four different types of Kahoot. We would also note down key steps in the notes page at the bottom. This helped give us a clearer picture and rundown of how the tutorial video would be like.
Afterwards, we considered the resources available to us to create the tutorial video. We considered a range of animation platforms to make the tutorial video. We compared the advantages and disadvantages of each of the tools and decided on using Powtoons. We chose Powtoons due to its user-friendly interface and available features in the free version.
During the developmental phase, it was useful that we had a storyboard ready which made it easy to structure and sequence the tutorial video. We did not need to spend as much time planning or determining the correct sequence. The preparation for the analysis and design phase helped increase our efficiency in creating the video.
In order to determine whether our tutorial video met the needs of our target audience, we created a survey which was categorized into different sections. At the implement phase, the survey proved very useful and insightful as it showed that we were able to meet most of the needs of our target audience. It also provided us with specific areas that we needed to improve on with our video. Instead of revising the whole video, we looked at those specific areas identified and started making amendments from there.
Based on the feedback received from the implementation phase, further adjustments were made to the tutorial video to ensure that it met the needs of our target audience. After much consideration, we decided to use Goanimate as it was easier to upload videos and it also had a text-to-speech function, which provided us with the audio element we were initially missing from the original tutorial video.
Overall, the ADDIE model provided us with a clear guideline on what steps need to be completed in order to create the tutorial video. It allowed us to better understand the needs of our target audience and identify the purpose of the tutorial video. We learned that the analysis and design phase are important in establishing that we want to create. Once we clearly identified the necessary information for these phases, we were able to move onto the development and implementation phase smoothly. We understood what we needed to achieve and how we needed to do it.
